Perched on the 50th floor, the newly launched suite distils the essence of contemporary Asian hospitality through feng shui principles and locally commissioned artworks.
Island Shangri-La has unveiled The Hong Kong Suite, a 130-square-metre sanctuary that celebrates the citys unique cultural identity through thoughtful design and quiet luxury. Located on the hotels 50th floor, the suite offers commanding views across Victoria Harbour while channelling the principles of feng shui to create a space that bridges sea and mountains.
The living room presents a striking duality: floor-to-ceiling windows frame the modern harbour skyline, whilst an opposite wall features a textured mural depicting Hong Kongs 19th-century origins as a fishing village. This deliberate pairing follows feng shui philosophy, creating an auspicious layout that welcomes prosperity. Painted fabric walls and specially commissioned pieces from Christies auction house, including traditional sampan paintings, anchor the interiors in local heritage.
“Real, understated luxury for our guests is about our connection to the place,” explains Clifford Weiner, Island Shangri-Las General Manager. The suite exemplifies this philosophy through its celebration of Hong Kongs natural landscape. Where the living room honours the water, the bedroom shifts focus to the mountains, featuring an intricate wall mural inspired by Victoria Peak and the Botanical Gardens lush greenery.
The dressing room continues this mountain narrative with textured wallpaper depicting Chinese lucky clouds and pines, symbols of prosperity and longevity. Its a contemporary interpretation of traditional motifs that feels neither derivative nor overwrought.
In the bathroom, hand-cut mosaics frame a polished marble bathtub beneath a gilded ceiling, the design inspired by magnolias—flowers once reserved exclusively for Chinese emperors. This isnt mere decorative flourish but a considered nod to imperial heritage, executed with restraint characteristic of Asian design sensibilities.
The suite forms part of Island Shangri-Las ongoing multi-year renovation, following the launch of YUN WELLNESS spa and the Family Floor.
