A-POC ABLE expands beyond fashion with atelier oï collaboration now showing in Tokyo.
A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE has unveiled a lighting collection developed with Swiss design studio atelier oï, marking the fashion brands first major expansion beyond apparel since its 2021 launch.
Titled TYPE-XIII Atelier Oï project, the collaboration combines fabric technology with wire structures to create illuminated textile installations. The collection, which premiered at Milan Design Week in April, is now on display at Tokyos 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT Gallery 3 through November 24.

A-POC ABLE represents an evolution of Issey Miyakes revolutionary A-POC system, first introduced in 1998 to explore the relationship between fabric and form. The brand has maintained its focus on experimental clothing construction while expanding its scope.
Atelier oï, founded in 1991 by Aurel Aebi, Armand Louis and Patrick Reymond, operates across architecture, product design and scenography with a 40-person team. The Swiss studio has built a reputation for interdisciplinary projects that blur traditional design boundaries.

The lighting series explores what both studios describe as “a piece of cloth” meeting “a piece of wire”. The collaboration demonstrates how textile innovation can extend into new product categories, potentially opening additional revenue streams for fashion brands seeking diversification.
The Tokyo exhibition showcases prototypes that merge aesthetic and functional considerations, marking the collections Asian debut following its European introduction.
