Located in Kisarazu City, Japan, the “Library in the Earth” at KURKKU FIELDS, designed by Hiroshi Nakamura, is deeply embedded within the earth. Its columnless structure, enabled by reinforced concrete shell construction, creates a continuous and open interior.
The extensive use of natural materials strengthens its connection to the surrounding landscape, while the underground design enhances thermal insulation and efficiency. The subterranean setting also effectively blocks external noise, providing visitors with a focused and tranquil reading experience.
