Designed by Hong Kong interior design firm C3 Design & Decorative Ltd., this 471-sq.ft. residence in Heng Fa Chuen, Block 4, embraces practicality and a modern minimalist aesthetic as its design essence.
The project earned an Excellence Award in the Residential – Apartment (Less than 500 sq.ft.) category at the Home Journal Awards 2025, underscoring the team’s precision in balancing spatial planning and visual coherence within compact living environments.
To enhance the apartment’s spatial fluidity, the designers adopted an open-plan layout, removing the partition between the living-dining area and kitchen to create a brighter and more connected atmosphere. Light wood-grain tiles across the floor, paired with earthy walls and tone-on-tone furniture, establish a soft, cohesive visual rhythm—making the modest space feel airy and inviting.
A standout feature of the flat is the open kitchen, where black marble surfaces on the counter and backsplash contrast elegantly with the home’s lighter palette. This interplay of tones naturally zones the space while adding refined depth. Sleek built-in cabinetry seamlessly accommodates appliances, ensuring a clutter-free and highly functional cooking area.
Throughout the home, layered indirect lighting subtly highlights the textures of various materials. In the master bedroom, warm earthy hues and timber accents continue the consistent design language, combining rest and productivity in one integrated area. A compact desk by the window, paired with track lighting, provides a focused workspace that aligns with the homeowner’s remote work needs.
To address common storage challenges in smaller homes, the designers incorporated custom-built furniture such as storage platforms and full-height wardrobes, consolidating compartments into streamlined structures. This thoughtful approach eliminates visual clutter and maximizes efficiency. The result is a pragmatic yet elegantly minimalist home that demonstrates how deliberate planning and balanced materials can redefine small-space living.
