Designed by Epic Interior Design for a retired couple, this 1,133 sq ft apartment at the Peak One translates the quiet precision of Japanese hospitality into a home for everyday living. Instead of grand gestures, the design works through small calibrations: how light falls, how corners are softened, and how every surface feels under the hand.
Warm timber grains form the backbone of the apartment, wrapping walls and built‑ins in a low‑saturation palette that feels calm rather than heavy. Fabrics are chosen to gently break up the wood and keep the rooms airy – a measured mix of linen, velvet and textured upholstery that adds tactility without visual noise. Across the space, a chequered parquet floor sets a subtle rhythm, bringing a crafted playfulness to an otherwise composed shell.
Lighting is treated almost like joinery. With higher‑than‑usual ceilings, narrow recessed coves replace bulky fixtures, keeping lines clean and making maintenance easier while still washing the walls in a soft glow. Over the dining area, a cluster of glass pendants in a warm bronze finish introduces a hotel‑like note, lifting the space with a gentle sparkle rather than a loud statement.
In the living room, a white velvet sofa sets a bright focal point, paired with a small, rounded lounge chair that echoes the project’s emphasis on softened edges and safer circulation for its senior residents. Behind, a Washed Linen – Bister wallcovering by Arte adds depth through texture instead of strong colour, giving the room a layered, hushed character. The dining zone is anchored by Porro’s Materic table, its sculptural top and tapered base forming a calm centrepiece for intimate dinners and slow breakfasts.
The study leans into a richer mood: warm timber is combined with stone in a travertine‑like finish, bringing the creamy, veined character of this timeless material into a compact workspace. The result is a room that feels both grounded and quietly luxurious – a place to read, work or simply sit with the view. In the bedroom, pale wood panelling and brushed stainless‑steel details keep the atmosphere light and contemporary, echoing the restraint of boutique hotels while remaining practical for everyday use.
Throughout the apartment, loose furniture is kept deliberately simple, with low‑saturation earthy tones chosen to support, rather than compete with, the architecture. Corners are rounded wherever possible to reduce the risk of bumps, an important consideration for an ageing couple, yet handled so gently that safety reads as softness rather than compromise. With high‑quality materials standing in for elaborate ornament, Epic Interior has created a calm retreat where retirement feels less like an ending and more like a soft landing into a slower, more attentive way of living.
