Hero Design Group has brought Italian farmhouse charm to a 2,400-square-foot Happy Valley apartment using terracotta tones, reclaimed timber and indoor-outdoor living spaces.
Rustic wood beams, earthy plaster walls and wraparound terraces define this Hong Kong home, where studio founder Ann Chan drew on the laid-back atmosphere of the Italian countryside to counter the intensity of urban living.
The young couple who own the apartment wanted to bring the relaxed atmosphere of an Italian farmhouse to their urban home, a rare aesthetic in a city dominated by sleek high-rises.
Hero Design Group balanced traditional farmhouse warmth with contemporary minimalism. Terracotta tones, reclaimed timber and open-plan layouts echo the simplicity of Italian country living while maintaining a modern edge.
The apartments wraparound terrace and surrounding greenery informed the design approach. Large openings dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, channeling the indoor-outdoor lifestyle typical of Italian homes.
Reclaimed wood features throughout, adding texture and warmth. Terracotta hues ground the palette, while generous room proportions allow natural light to flow through the space.
The design accommodates the familys daily routines while preserving a sense of ease. Living areas connect fluidly, encouraging interaction while maintaining distinct zones for parents and children.
“Each project weaves a cultural resonance,” said Chan, whose studio specialises in bridging different design traditions. The result is an urban sanctuary that slows down time for its inhabitants, offering respite from Hong Kongs relentless energy.
