Snøhetta turns a Taichung finance office into a light‑filled indoor city park for work, rest and conversation.
For Good Finance’s Taichung Downtown Branch, Snøhetta replaces the usual reception‑and‑cubicles layout with a slow, linear entry corridor that opens onto a generous central forum. This sunlit core, enriched with greenery and custom timber seating, is conceived as an indoor city square for everyday work, informal meetings and public events. Finance conferences, guest lectures and even film screenings turn the forum into a civic room where money is discussed openly rather than behind closed doors.
Across the 800-square-metre floor, the plan is organised into soft rings around this “park”. The first ring is an informal work zone, with semi‑circular desks facing both the forum and the city, connected by a circular walkway that encourages chance encounters. Beyond it, a bar and cafeteria form a relaxed social hub, flanked by lounge‑like meeting areas with sofas instead of boardroom tables, while glass‑enclosed corner rooms provide privacy without losing daylight.
A restrained palette of wood, glass and metal balances warmth with professional clarity. Timber wraps the central forum, giving the space a calm, tactile heart, while reflective metal details at the reception, bar and bookshelves add a contemporary edge. Fluted glass partitions diffuse views and light deep into the plan, and sustainable Bolon flooring ties the different zones together, giving this finance office the quiet comfort of a well‑kept urban park.
More than a backdrop to daily work, the forum also acts as a cultural engine for the company, hosting finance talks, guest speakers and documentary screenings that open the space to wider conversations about money, knowledge and community. This blend of workplace, city park and civic room hints at a new typology for finance offices in Asia—one built on openness, learning and shared ambition.
